Looking back, I feel like asking questions was frowned upon, especially by people I relied upon like my mom and dad. So I became very independent at a very young age.
I’ve always relied on myself for everything I need and still do. Receiving advice has always been very difficult for me due to how things were for me earlier in my life.
I once attempted to hike all the way down the west coast of the United States. The lower 48.
Washington and Oregon were easy due to the most of the land being publicly owned. That all changed in California due to most the cost line there being privately owned.
I ended up making it all the way down to Mexico, but had to take rides along the way due to private residents calling the police on my for trespassing on their private property a bunch of times and wildfires.
But in the end, it was a risk I took that I absolutely don’t regret.
Before I set foot on the trail at Cape Flattery in Neah Bay, Washington, I gave up my job and my apartment and placed what belongings of mine I chose to keep in my sister’s garage.
It was worth it.
I needed to experience something other than working just to pay bills.
At the time that I did it, it was time for me to stop thinking about it all the time and just doing it.
